Instructors

Seasoned professional educators are the cornerstone of our summer program staff. Cottonwood Gulch has a long history of attracting passionate teachers and experts who share our commitment to letting young people participate directly in knowledge creation and adventure. Our group leaders for each expedition are often classroom teachers from middle and high schools around the country or practicing artists and scientists. We have a 70% return rate on our staff and many are themselves alumni of Cottonwood Gulch programs. The staff is carefully selected to provide competent guidance and expertise in all appropriate activities and for their ability to work closely with young people. All instructors are at least 21 years old. The Foundation maintains a five to one ratio of campers to staff in all its programs. The high standards we set for staff members and the low ratio of staff to participants ensure an experience of the highest quality for each child at Cottonwood Gulch.
