Cottonwood Gulch is looking for talented people who care about learning and about the environment to join our summer staff of leaders, instructors, and support staff for our summer expeditions.

Responsibilities

Gulch staff members are full-time instructors, wilderness guides, drivers, cooks, guitarists, artists, and mentors for the expedition members, ages 10-19. Individual duties vary by each position. All staff are expected to help care for the emotional and physical health and safety of all individual group members as well as uphold the Foundation's mission and our 'share-and-share-alike' philosophy to communal living.

Qualifications

Instructors should have solid experience and enthusiasm for working with adolescents in the field. Staff should show significant passion for the environment and for their area of instruction or responsibility, although formal degrees are not required. Priority for all positions is given to those 21-and-over, those with advanced First Aid certification, and teachers and all those with prior educational work experience. Many of the group leaders and staff are Gulch alumni and many others have NOLS or similar backcountry experience. Many of the senior instructors at Base Camp are classroom teachers or graduate students.

Benefits

All staff members receive a stipend for the summer (typically $1,500-3,000), full room and board, laundry facilities, health care coverage, transportation to and from New Mexico, a regular rotation of time off, an exceptionally fun working environment, and stars to sleep under every night. Our staff members find that the rewards, both from the program and from the peer group, are tremendous. More than 70% return for another year.
